Guidance for the Advertising of Broadband Speeds in the Isle of Man
Friday, June 28, 2019Consumer
The Communications Commission and the Office of Fair Trading have jointly prepared new draft Guidance for the Advertising of Broadband Speeds.
The overarching intention of the Guidance is to provide advertisers with clarity as to how the provisions currently controlling advertisements for broadband speeds are interpreted.
The Guidance recommends that it should be possible for the advertiser to demonstrate that the claimed speed is achievable for at least 50% of the relevant customer base at ‘peak time’ (defined as between 8pm and 10pm).
A copy of this draft Guidance is available to view here on the Commission's website. Comments and feedback on the Guidance are welcomed with the consultation closing on 12th August.

Television Reception in Laxey Area
Tuesday, April 2, 2019Consumer
The Communications Commission (the Commission) is aware of a problem affecting television viewers who are served by the Laxey transmitter.
The issue appears to involve poor signal and frequent dropping out of some BBC channels on Freeview.
The Commission is in regular contact with the relevant organisation which manages the television transmitters. The likely cause of the problem is believed to have been identified and an engineer will fit a replacement part to the transmitter on Wednesday (3rd April 2019).
Affected television viewers are thanked for their patience.
